Our top 10 favourite things to do
There’s so much to explore here that we thought we’d pull a few ideas together to help you plan your perfect trip.
Take a dip
Meander down the hill as you follow the signs to our private stretch of shoreline. Tiptoe to the water’s edge, take a deep breath and jump in! Well maybe don’t jump.. it’s not quite what we’d call a comfortable swim. Awesome, yes. Refreshing, even more so! Or, just invest in a wetsuit and dive right in. Ha!
You can even ask us about paddle boarding or jog and dip sessions for groups of 10 or more (always followed by a hot toddy). Just drop us a wee email on bookings@borelandlochtay.co.uk for more info.
Safari into the hills (or loch!)
Highland Safaris is a super cool experience in nearby Aberfeldy. It’s all about adventure as you climb aboard one of their off-road vehicles. Whether you’re into nature, stunning scenery, history – or simply want to have some fun, this lovely lot will make sure you have the best day.
Oh, and did we mention they do Loch Tay safaris too?
Swing the Highland way
Did someone say bungee?! If yes, you 100% need to visit the team at Highland Fling Bungee to try the first purpose-built, permanent bridge swing platform in Britain.
We keep trying to convince our fab general manager, Dirk, to give it a try. Recently, he’s agreed – but only if we film it all. So, watch this space! In the meantime, we love hearing from guests who have felt the fear and done it anyway. You’re our kind of people.
Blend your own whisky
Did you know that we have 5 nearby distilleries?
- Edradour is the smallest traditional distillery in Scotland, dating back to 1825.
- Glenturret is one of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland. Its tour is ace and it even has a Michelin rated restaurant.
- Blair Athol is known for its ancient water source, known in Scottish Gaelic as ‘the burn of the otter’.
- Tullibardine was once a brewery that served beer to King James IV of Scotland.
- Dewar’s Aberfeldy produces whisky from the gold-rich waters of the Pitilie Burn. And it’s here that you can blend your own malt.
Shop until your drop
Yep, we know. You’re on holiday and might not want to shop. But, we can’t not mention some of the amazing small craft makers right on our doorstep.
From Taybank Glass to renowned goldsmith Malcolm Appleby, and nearby Aberfeldy Gallery – there’s so much to discover. For more inspiration, visit Perthshire Local’s Facebook page or take a look at Visit Aberfeldy.
And let’s not forget our friends at House of Bruar. Oh, what a place. We love everything about this (fancier) shopping and food destination.
Explore 2500 years of history
Ever wanted to know what life was like on our shores thousands of years ago?
After a devastating fire in 2021, a new Scottish Crannog Centre is being built a short hop, skip and a jump away from us at Boreland. We couldn’t be more proud of this national treasure and everything the team does to bring life to our local past.
Did you know? Crannog dwellers are thought to predate the egyptians. You can visit the museum, enjoy a guided tour and watch hands-on demonstrations a mere ten minutes down the road.
Trek our land on a quad bike tour
Ok, so who doesn’t love getting out and about on a quad bike adventure? Our mates at Scottish Quads create some of the best treks in Highland Perthshire. You can even have quads delivered to Boreland as part of their Quads 2 U experience. Super fun for all the family.
Get crafty on a raft
White water rafting, canyoning, gorge walking, river tubing, waterfall adventures, river ducking and so much more. For water babies like us, you don’t get much better than the waterways surrounding Loch Tay.
So, if you want to tummel (doric for tumble) in the River Tummel or simply play in the River Tay – look no further. We work closely with the guys at Nae Limits, Splash, and The Canyoning Company to create adventures tailored to your group and budget.
Get in touch with Andrew for more info on prices and how to book.
Grab some popcorn at The Birks Cinema
Our local cinema; run by lovely people. As a community enterprise with a passion for providing world-class cinema, The Birks Cinema is a thriving community hub in nearby Aberfeldy. Not only do the films keep us going back for more, they also have a fab cafe/bar and loads of community events.
Take it easy
This is really what a trip to Boreland is all about. Yes, we have adventures by the bucketload nearby, but we’re also all about resetting, taking time in nature, and championing slow adventure and tourism. We guarantee peace, relaxation and an abundance of outdoor space.
